Writing stories and art - drawing and painting - are my hobbies. Since childhood I have been a stutterer and was often unable to express myself verbally. Writing has released me from the stranglehold that impeded my speech and art gives me yet another way to express myself and capture the beauty of this world. I spend many hours of quiet contentment sketching a scene in nature or sitting in my art studio copying geniuses like Vincent van Gogh or copying photographs. I would love to have live models, but they are too costly. I was born in London, England and moved as an infant to Johannesburg, South Africa, soon after the end of World War II. My parents, when in England, were very active in the local Jewish community and continued their activities in Johannesburg. My father was a member of the local synagogue, being chairman of the committee from time to time, and was instrumental in setting up the King David Jewish Day School. He was a keen tennis player and after initiating a tennis and social club at the school, he moved on to found other clubs. My mother was unstintingly supportive of my father’s endeavours as befits a woman of that era, but preferred a more sedentary lifestyle, although she loved cleaning and tidying cupboards! My parents lived through the Great Depression of the 1930’s and always knew the value of money and hard work.
As a boy and youth I was a member of Zionist Youth Movements, Habonim and Betar, although I have no ideological link to any particular stream of Zionism. I moved with my family to Israel in 1979.
The aim of my site is to put my art and stories out there for everyone to enjoy. Many of the themes of my writing are Jewish or family oriented, but my art is eclectic - chosen from various sources. I hope whoever reads my stories and browses through my art will derive enjoyment. My art is for sale - please contact me for prices and shipping costs. All my books are available on Amazon - see the links on my books pages.
